Cable overbuilder RCN continues to launch gigabit broadband service in markets well ahead of area incumbents. On the heels of launching its 1 Gbps down, 20 Mbps up service in Washington DC and New York, RCN this week confirmed to the Philly Inquirer that the company will be launching the service in the Philly metro area starting this week. RCN’s gigabit broadband tier doesn’t have caps, and costs $70 (plus $15 modem rental unless you buy one) for the first year. There’s some more detail over at the RCN Gigabit website.
