Time Warner Cable, Cox See Major Outage Due to Level3 Fiber Cut

A cut cable resulted in a prolonged outage in the Northeast for both Time Warner Cable and Cox Communications customers. The outages impacted both companies’ customers in the New York City area, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, beginning around 2:45 p.m. ET. Time Warner Cable said most of its customers were back online by around 9 PM last evening.

The companies refused to state just how many customers were impacted, but the outage in New York City alone appeared to be significant.

“Our network is experiencing service disruptions affecting some of our customers with operations in the Northeastern United States due to a fiber cut caused by third-party construction,” Level 3 said of the outage. “Our technicians are on site and working to restore service.”
